Hello & Welcome!

Hello friends!

I hope you’re all well and are having a wonderful Spooky Season (I’m dressing up as a frying pan for Halloween and no one can stop me); with the release of my first single coming up this week, I thought now would be the right time to put this blog together.

With my second year of university now in full swing (genuinely, I have deadlines left right and centre) I wanted to create a platform where I can document parts of my life, whether related to my university life or not.

With regards to my songwriting, I often write pieces that never make it into performances or recordings – this is where I’d like to share all of that. I’m going to be sharing the parts of my musical writing process that are less visible on my other social media platforms, such as unfinished work, or old songs which I never had a chance to share before. Essentially, I’d like this space to be honest, raw and full of brain dumps – I hope you find interest in it and I hope it shows you more about me as a human, as well as a musician.

As I’ve grown as a songwriter, my songs are less about the music and more about the meaning of the lyrics. I’ve found that if I carefully curate my lyrics to portray my message perfectly, the sound of the song comes naturally. Learning more about myself as a lyricist has made me really focus on my writing and delve deeper into myself to produce art that is authentic. Unfortunately it does mean that I’m writing much less than I was 5 years ago, but I do feel that my music has more substance to it. I would like to share more of that authenticity; whether that is just little snippets of writing that I would like people to think about, or if I just make an honest post about the difficulties of writing.

I think it’s safe to say that 2017 was one of the craziest years we’ve had (I really do think we just need a world group hug right now); all the events and movements in the world that have led us to where we are as a society today have definitely made me stronger in my own opinions in the last few months. I’m very fortunate to be part of a generation who are as outspoken as ever (I hope to talk about this more in a future post!) and I’d like to use that to write openly and honestly about my experiences and how I see the world. So, aside from writing about music; I want to tell stories, talk about opinions and open up conversations that would otherwise be shut down.

I hope you lovely people are as excited for this project as I am!

So until the next one, I hope you have a lovely few days & look after yourselves,

Thivya x

P.S. I can’t start a blog about my music without telling you that if you haven’t already seen my announcements, I have a single coming out THIS FRIDAY! AHHHHHH! It’s called No One There At All, and I absolutely love it. I will definitely talk about it more in a post soon, but until then, make sure you’re following my other social media platforms for more links to my music! If you’re a Spotify user, be sure to follow my artist profile so you get the song in your Release Radar when it comes out!
